Buhari Endorses Uba For Anambra Election

Olayinka Owolabi Ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, President Muhammadu Buhari has received the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Andy Uba. President Buhari met Uba on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja along with APC Caretaker and Convention Planning Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni. Five other governors were also present at the meeting. The President said he is anxious for the party’s success in the election. “I am happy to formally welcome you. Olayinka Owolabi The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Tuesday, cancelled general cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions and gave schools the freedom to set their individual minimum benchmarks for admission. The Board took the decision at the 2021 policy meeting, which was held virtually, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu. The policy meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, usually has all heads of tertiary institutions, heads of regulatory agencies in the sector, and other critical stakeholders such as the chairmen of the committees on education at the lower and upper chambers of the National Assembly in attendance. The Federal Government may sanction eligible Nigerians who refuse COVID-19 vaccination. The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, gave the hint at a press briefing briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. In Edo and Ondo States, the state governments had already announced restrictions regarding some public places that those who have not taken COVID-19 vaccine cannot have access to. Shuaib said the government may “apply the basic rule of law” against such people because they will be endangering the lives of other people.   Olayinka Owolabi             Captain Abdukkarim Bala Na'Allah- (Google) Some bandits in separate attacks have killed three persons, including a pilot, in two local government areas of Kaduna North and Kajuru, Kaduna State. The pilot, Captain Abdukkarim Bala Na’Allah, said to be the eldest son of Senator Bala Na’Allah, was killed by the hoodlums in his Malali (GRA) residence in Kaduna North Local Government Area on Sunday. Although police authorities in the state confirmed the incident, they did not give any details. An aide of the Senator, Garba Mohammed, told newsmen that the body of the late pilot was discovered in his room on Sunday afternoon. He said that the late 36-year-old Abdulkarim, was alone in his house on Saturday night, as his wife had travelled, only for his corpse to be discovered by neighbours on Sunday.   OLAYINKA OWOLABI President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed not to exit the government as a failure at the end of his second term in office in 2023. He made the declaration during a crucial closed-door meeting with service chiefs held on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno, conveyed the President’s pledge to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting which lasted more than five hours. He disclosed that during the meeting, the service chiefs briefed President Buhari on the security situation in the country. Olayinka Owolabi Residents of Onitsha and other communities in Anambra State engage in indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation due to the failure of the state government to evacuate the filth in public places and therefore live in perpetual fear of an epidemic outbreak.  During a visit to some of the dumpsites by our correspondent, Olayinka Owolabi and Doreen Obianukor, residents of Enugu road, Central Police Station, Court road, Fegge road, Marine area, Nsugbe road, all in Onitsha, revealed there were waste bins stationed at the areas but the bins were often times filled and spilling over the roads before being evacuated by men of the Anambra State Waste Management Agency. Tanker fire destroys property in Anambra, claims two lives

Olayinka Owolabi Two persons have been killed and several others injured in a tanker fire at the Building Material Market in Ogidi, near Onitsha, in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State. No fewer than 14 buses and other property were also burnt in the accident, which occurred on Sunday. An eyewitness, who spoke in confidence,  said the fire, which started Sunday evening, was caused by  a tanker conveying inflammable content to an undisclosed destination.  He said the tanker was stationary when another articulated vehicle lost control and rammed into it. According to him, the tanker fell into a nearby drainage, spilled its contents, and immediately went up in flames. “Several people were injured in the accident. I saw the security people carry two dead bodies into a Hilux truck. Olayinka Owolabi Despite the suspension of the weekly sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Banks, business centres, eateries failed to open on Monday in Onitsha and Awka, Anambra State capital. Our correspondent Olayinka Owolabi, who monitored activities on Monday morning in Onitsha, the commercial hub of the State capital, observed that streets and roads were deserted unlike every other day. While businesses, especially markets operated on a low level, few persons who came out found it difficult to get commercial vehicles, tricycles and motorbikes they could board to their destinations, major markets like Onitsha Main Market, Ose Market, Ogbaru Relief Market, Ochanja Market, Electronic Market and Motor Spare parts Market, Ogidi. Anambra commissioner escapes death as Naval officer allegedly shoots at him

  Olayinka Owolabi Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, Bonaventure Enemali yesterday allegedly escaped being killed by men of the Nigerian Navy stationed at Awkuzu junction, along Onitsha-Awka expressway. The commissioner’s personal vehicle pierced with bullets was seen yesterday, as a close associate to him confirmed the Commissioner was shot but escaped death by the whiskers. Sources said the incident happened as the Commissioner was driven to Awka through the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.   The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has suspended the weekly sit-at-home exercise it commenced this week in the South-east. The group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, stated this in a statement on Saturday. IPOB had declared a weekly sit-at-home exercise to protest the arrest and detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government. The separatist body’s action implied that the next sit-at-home would now take place on October 21, 2021, when Kanu is scheduled to appear in court. Kanu, who was brought back to Nigeria in a controversial manner by the Federal Government, is standing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for jumping bail and other issues. Long before last Monday’s sit-at-home, some notable Igbo leaders and groups had kicked against it, saying the South-East economy would be gravely affected.   Hoodlums in the early hours of Saturday attacked Izombe Divisional Police Headquarters in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, killing two policemen on duty. A former senior aide to ex-Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Doyin Okupe, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the country’s opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are one and same. According to the physician turned politician, there’s not much separating the two Nigerian political parties as seventy per cent of people who control power in the APC today were all members of the PDP. Mr Okupe stated this on Friday when he featured on an ARISE News programme, monitored by our correspondent.
