Governor of Ebonyi State Engr. David Umahi together with his deputy, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, earlier today visited the scene of the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday along Abakaliki - Ikwo road, where a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a mining pit.

Governor Umahi described the incident as “very terrible and unfortunate.”

It should be recall that South East Digest had on Sunday morning reported that a bus fully loaded with 11 passengers was Saturday reported to have plunged into a mining pit located at Enyigba Community of Ikwo Local Government Area of the State.

The pit is about 32 feet deep.

South East Digest gathered that the bus took off from the popular motor parks known as Ochu-udo motor park, located along Afikpo road in Abakaliki without the premonition that it’s journey would end tragically.

A crowd gathers at the site of an excavation pit where a vehicle was said to have plunged into on August 14, 2021.

The Governor is directly working with divers, stakeholders of the community, and security agents in making sure that the said vehicle with its occupants is recovered from the pit.
