2023: Ndigbo must unite to make Igbo presidency a reality ― Ohaneze Youth wing

The Youth Council of the Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it is time a Nigerian of Igbo extraction becomes president of Nigeria.

The Secretary General of the council, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, gave the view on Thursday, 12th  during an interview with our correspondent, in commemoration of the 2021 International Youth Day. 

Correspondent, Olayinka Owolabi reports that the Ohaneze youths  group urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) to zone the 2023 presidency to the Southeast for equity and fairness.

It argued that conceding power to Ndigbo would ensure justice, equity and fairness in the country’s political arena.

“We wish to appeal to the two major political parties APC and PDP in Nigeria political space to do the needful by presenting their candidates from the Igbo extraction, so as to facilitate the possibility of the Igbo becoming the Nigeria President, come 2023. This will be in consonance with the principles of equity, natural justice, good conscience.

Okpalaezeukwu however maintained that to achieve this agenda, the people of Igbo race, all stakeholders and political actors in the region must unite and have a common goal, irrespective of political differences.

He added that what is most important for the leaders of the region now, is to come together, and not sabotage each other in the chase for this race if the Igbo extraction is really prepare to be President of the country come 2023.

He however, regretted that no much seriousness from the political leaders to achieve this. 

Speaking on the November 6th Governorship election in Anambra State, the group urged Igbo youths to get registered for Voters cards and to reject any attempt by anyone or political party to be used as thugs to unleash mayhem for political gains.
