JUST IN : President Buhari Sacks Two Ministers, Announces Replacement

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Ministers of Agriculture, Mohammed Sabo Nanono, and Mamman Saleh, his power counterpart.

The Minister of Environment, Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar is to take over as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development while the Minister of State for Works, Abubakar Aliyu, is to take over as the Minister for Power.

In the brief statement read by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari said the process of rejigging his cabinet is going to be continuous.

Nigerian Govt Rules Out Another COVID-19 Lockdown Amid Rising Cases

The Federal Government on Thursday said it was not considering a lockdown despite rising cases of COVID-19 infections across the country. Speaking at the weekly ministerial briefing organized at the State House in Abuja, Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said the number of cases were not threatening enough, yet, for a lockdown to be considered. A recent surge in infections has been partly attributed to the Delta variant, which is believed to be more contagious and deadlier. On Wednesday, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Nigeria had recorded 790 cases of new COVID-19 infections; the figure was the highest in about six months. Minister Ehanire also said on Thursday Nigeria is not only relying on donated vaccines from other entities. The countries has benefitted from vaccines donated by COVAX and the US. Olayinka Owolabi The senator representing Anambra north, Stella Oduah, has decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It was gathered that Stella Oduah was received into the fold of the ruling party at a brief ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday. The national chairman of the APC caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, deputy senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege, Atiku Bagudu, chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), and Hope Uzodimma, Imo governor, were present at the event. Oduah said she joined the ruling party because she wants to change the “political narrative” in the south-east region of the country.
