ANAMBRA GUBER: INEC LISTS SOLUDO AS APGA CANDIDATE, AS COURT DECLARES UMEOJI PARTY CANDIDATE

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, today in its list of candidates for the 2021 Anambra Governorship election scheduled for the 6th of November, 2021, published the name of Prof Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA for the governorship election, South East Digest can report.
The statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of the INEC, Festus Okoye also published the name of Dr Onyeka Ibezi as the APGA Deputy Governorship Candidate.
The Commission revealed that it was served with the judgement of the Court of Appeal (Kano Division), which set aside the judgement of the High Court of Jigawa State on the leadership of APGA and the nomination of its candidates for the Anambra Governorship election.
The INEC had in its list published late July, recognized Chief Chukwuma Umeoji and Professor Lilian Orogbu as the Governorship and Deputy Governorship of APGA, respectively.
However, the Imo State High Court on Thursday presided over by Justice Victoria. C. Isiguzo, struck out an application for stay of execution brought by Victor Oye, seeking to stop an earlier judgement which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize Chukwuma Umeoji, as the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.
But the court granted Oye the leave to appeal but did not grant him the order of stay of execution as requested against the judgement earlier delivered by Justice B. C. Iheka in favour of Umeoji.
By today’s ruling, INEC is directly restrained from attempting to remove the name of Umeoji as the candidate of APGA from its list as it was rumored that it was under pressure to do so.
It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal Kano Division had on August 10, 2021, set aside another judgment of the Jigawa High Court which also held that Chief Jude Okeke is National Chairman of APGA and only governorship Congress held by him shall be valid without making any orders as to who should be the candidate of the party.
