Political parties and their candidates for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra have been urged to focus more on their manifestoes and plans for the development of the state, rather than frivolities and propaganda.

The call is coming on the heels of a verbal attack on his contemporaries in other parties, by the APGA candidate, Professor Chukwuma Soludo where he boasted that Anambra is too big to be governed by WAEC certificate holders.

According to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, it was unthinkable that people who submitted only WAEC certificates as their qualification would aspire to govern a state like Anambra, arguing that the state had outgrown being governed by people with such low educational qualification.

Other candidates and parties had taken to different platforms to trade banters over the comment.

But in a reaction to the development in Awka today, a Public Affairs Analyst, Chima Christian while noting that education plays a role in shaping leaders, maintained however, that it is wrong to say that good governance is tied to the height of educational certificates attained.

A citizen, Ikechukwu Umeh-Onyia regretted that it is worrisome that instead of engaging the people on what plans they have for them, the politicians are delving into personal issues, noting that the electoral act is clear on the qualification for governorship aspiration.

On his part, the National Secretary, Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, it is time for the youths to rise up and demand their rights from the governing class.

Meanwhile, Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has challenged his counterpart in the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Charles Soludo to within 48 hours provide his manifesto for the November 6 governorship election.

He also expressed his willingness to face him in a public debate within the next seven days.

“In this regard, I am challenging Prof. Soludo to an open public manifesto debate with me. Let us put our manifestos out before the court of public opinion and adjudication so as to let the people decide their preferred candidate, whose agenda resonates with the layman and electorate.

“My manifesto which is tagged ‘Arise, a New Anambra is Possible’ is a comprehensive road-map for the actualisation of a New and Better Anambra that will open access to equal opportunities to all Anambrarians, guarantee quality infrastructural development, qualitative education, improved security and rapid industrialisation in Anambra State.
